Our recreational baseball program focuses on fun and learning of the game, and is offered to all Emerson children in Pre-K thru 8th grade. The program runs from the beginning of April until mid-June. Kids are assigned to each division based on their current grade. All days listed below are subject to change based on field availability and weather – makeup practices and games will be scheduled if possible.
Tee Ball Division (PreK & K)
Our program for these children consists of clinic type practices and scrimmage games to introduce them to the game of baseball. The goal of the clinic is to expose our youngest players to the fundamentals of baseball in a fun and age-appropriate way. Registration is open to those currently in Pre-K and Kindergarten. Sessions are once a week for approximately 1 hour (typically on Sunday) for Pre-K, and twice a week for approximately 1 hour (typically one weeknight and on Sunday) for Kindergarten.
PeeWee Division (1st & 2nd grade)
This program looks to build upon the fundamentals learned in Tee Ball. Early in the season we will begin by re-introducing the fundamentals of the game and learning about proper gameplay. As the children advance in hitting off of coaches, kid pitching is introduced to continue developing skills. Scrimmages are started after the first few sessions with the focus on development and fun -- we do not keep score, kids rotate positions in the field, and we begin to introduce other traditional baseball rules. Sessions are 2 times a week for approximately 1-1.5 hours (typically one weeknight and one Saturday session).
In addition, pending interest all 2nd graders are invited to play in a separate league on Sundays. These games will be fully kid-pitch with proper scorekeeping - and played against other local towns.
Minors Division (3rd & 4th grade)
The minors division is a kid pitch format on 46’x60’ fields. Typical Little League gameplay rules are in place (scorekeeping, field positions, etc) with some modifications to ensure smooth gameplay. Games are played against other Emerson teams as well as teams from surrounding towns. Scheduling typically consists of 2 evenings per week as well as Saturdays.
Majors Division (5th & 6th grade)
The majors division is a kid pitch format on 46’x60’ fields. Little League Baseball rules are in place (scorekeeping, field positions, etc). Games are played against other Emerson teams as well as teams from surrounding towns. Scheduling typically consists of 2 evenings per week as well as Saturdays.
Senior Division (7th & 8th grade)
Played on a Major League sized field (60x90). The number of in-town teams depends on enrollment. However, Emerson plays in a multi-town league and each team will play games against rec teams from surrounding towns. Scheduling typically consists of 2-3 practices/games per week, depending on scheduling availability of other towns.
